Miep Gies was the woman who sheltered Anne Frank and her family during the time of Nazi terror. She died on Monday 11th. This made the author to write an obituary.

After giving more information about her life and deeds he requests action. Action which like Gies has shown would be possible against the genocide which is ongoing today. He names Rwanda, Ethiopia, Cambodia, Bosnia, Timor and Sudan as places where action would be urgently needed. In the end especially phrase parsing politicians who could do more to stop violence and killing but don’t feel any need to do so will have to pay for their passiveness on Judgment Day.
